If there is anything I’ve learned over the past few months, it is that life doesn’t always go according to plan.  Lately we’ve been having to practice the “Go with the flow” philosophy a lot. On our recent camping trip to GA, the weather forecast changed to predicting rain all day on Saturday.

My daughter really wanted to go to the Atlanta Zoo, and since it wasn’t training hard we decided to go with it.  What a great decision! We got to check out the new Savanna area, see the decorations they had up for Zoo at the Boo, and all without being in crowds.

The great thing is that there are a lot of things to do inside as well as outside (or at least partially covered), and the light rain kept the crowds away.

First of all, the new African Savanna area is Amazing!  They are still working on it, and the animals are still adjusting to their new habitat, but we were really impressed with this new area of the zoo.  So much time and effort has gone into making this area! We loved being able to get such great views of the elephants and giraffes.

We also had a really great time checking out the Scaly Slimy Spectacular – last time we were at the zoo, this area was so crowded we didn’t get to explore it as well as we would have liked.  This time we were able to take our time and really get a good look at the exhibit. Surprisingly, this was a huge hit with the ten year old girls!

For us, a visit to the zoo isn’t complete without a trip to see the Pandas.  I can’t believe they are celebrating their third birthday – I remember when they were born.  We also had to visit my daughter’s favorite – the Red Panda!

Don’t forget to check out Boo at the Zoo – it’s a hugely popular event this October 26 and 27th.  It’s very popular – so be sure to carpool or take a Lyft!  They will have all kinds of crafts for your little ones and characters roaming the main path.  There is also a foam zone, a dance party, and carnival games.
