At our house, we love watching shows like Cutthroat Kitchen and Chopped on the Food Network. The Chiquita Cooking Lab is a series of eight weekly recipe contests that is similar to these shows. Every week, three featured ingredients will be revealed and participants are tasked with creating a unique recipe that incorporates these three ingredients. You are encouraged to add your own ingredients as well! It’s a fun way to get the entire family involved in coming up with something creative.

I received this product for free from the sponsor of the Moms MeetSM program, May Media Group LLC, who received it directly from the manufacturer. As a Moms MeetSM blogger, I agreed to use this product and post my opinion on my blog. My opinions do not necessarily
reflect the opinions of May Media Group LLC or the manufacturer of the product.

The Chiquita Cooking Lab Contest began on September 29th and ends on November 24th, 2014 – so there is plenty of time to enter! Bananas will always be one of the ingredients—but be creative! Think outside the box of traditional banana breads and banana splits.

One winner will be chosen each week to win a $4,000 cash prize, and will have their recipe turned into a stop motion video and promoted on Chiquita’s digital and social channels. Even better, four random winners will also be chosen weekly to receive a Chiquita gift bag.

Contest entry is easy! I didn’t have any problems. Simply submit your recipe on the contest website or through the official Chiquita FanFun app. You can enter a new recipe every week, if desired!

When we scratched off, we had bananas, hazelnut spread, and coconut as our ingredients. I decided to make a fun take on a Sundae to make a sweet breakfast treat. The great thing about it is that it’s so easy to do fun substitutions!

Sunday Sundae

  • Pound Cake (or waffles
  • One banana
  • Strawberries (about 4)
  • About one T chocolate hazelnut spread (we used Jason’s brand)
  • 1 heaping tsp coconut flakes
  • 1 T coconut oil
  1. In a small nonstick pan, heat 1 T coconut oil
  2. While it’s heating, slice your bananas into small slices
  3. Place the banana slices in the pan, heating until caramelized – about 2 minutes per side.
  4. You can add some honey at the end if desired!
  5. While bananas are cooking, heat up your waffle or pound cake slice.
  6. Spread hazelnut spread on the pound cake – top with bananas, strawberries, and coconut
  7. Enjoy!  Little Miss and I both thought that this was a great breakfast treat!
