If you’ve ever been to downtown Pensacola, then you’ve probably heard of Oh Snap! Cupcakes. They were probably the first store dedicated to cupcakes to open in Pensacola, and they have some wonderful unique flavors! Little Miss and I occasionally got there for a special treat.
This past Monday we went to check out all the flavors and pick out a few to take home. While I was showing Little Miss all of the cupcakes and describing the flavors to her, the lady behind the counter asked her if she liked peppermints. Of course she does! She then reached behind the counter and handed Little Miss a tiny little Peppermint Starlight cupcake. It was so cute!
Unfortunately, while Little Miss was eating the peppermint off of the top of the cupcake, she dropped the rest of it on the floor. If you have a toddler, you know exactly how traumatic that was – we were on the verge of a mini breakdown! Fortunately, the owner (I think) walked in right about then and quickly gave her a chocolate covered marshmallow with peppermint sprinkles to replace it. Crisis averted!
This is one of the great things about small local businesses – they all go above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience! We chose four cupcakes to take home with us:
Hot Mamma: This is my personal favorite, so I get it every time I’m there! It’s a rich chocolate cake infused with coffee and a hint of cayenne and cinnamon – topped with a cream cheese, cayenne, and cinnamon frosting. This spicy cupcake will have you coming back for more!
Peppermint Starlight: Since Little Miss dropped her small one, we decided to go ahead and get the large version. I’m so glad we did! This light vanilla cake has a delicious buttercream peppermint frosting perfect to get you in the Christmas spirit!
Oreo: This rich cupcake will have you grabbing for a glass of milk! Triple Chocolate Cake topped with chunky oreo buttercream surrounded with crushed oreos. Any oreo lover would enjoy this cupcake.
Hummingbird: Although not my personal favorite, it’s still really good. Pineapple-banana cake with a tropical pineapple-coconut filling topped with cream cheese frosting and sprinkled with toasted coconut. A maraschino cherry tops it off! This one is denser than the others, and is full of tropical flavors. It had me dreaming of warmer weather.
Although the cupcakes are a little pricey ($2.75 each), they’re great for the occasional special treat. If you’re in Pensacola be sure to give them a try!
