So I don’t know i f you remember, but a while back I took a test drive on a SUP Stand Up Paddle Board) and REALLY enjoyed it.  I love floating over the water, and the SUP gives you a great vantage point so you can see tons of sea life and such underneath you.  It’s easier than it looks, you just have to not think about it too hard!

Here are Brian and Little Miss ready to go out on the board!

So when Tropical Storm Lee was here, we finally bought one!  We did it the frugal way and bought a used demo board, which although still pricey saved us a few hundred dollars.  The people over at Coastal Paddle Company were so nice and easy to work with, if you’re in Pensacola I highly recommend them!  They sell YOLO boards exclusively, which are really great boards.

Little Miss doing Criss-Cross Applesauce while I paddle.  Towards the end of the day she finally let me stand up while she was sitting on the board!

Unfortunately, with the weather so bad we weren’t able to take it out!  However, this weekend was absolutely gorgeous, and we spent Friday afternoon and most of the day Saturday on the water.

I was shaky at first (it had been a while since the last time I had done it), but I quickly became confident again.  I just had to not think about the jellyfish that were floating around in the bay – they got pushed in during the tropical storm and were the size of dinner plates!  Here is one that got washed up on the beach.

The SUP is living out at the beach at a friend’s house, which makes it really convenient!  Here is a picture of the neighbor’s house – nice, isn’t it?

There is a great little sand bar near there where the water isn’t very deep so we went there so Little Miss could get out and play in the water.  No jellyfish there!  There was the occasional hermit crab, though.

Unlike the ones at the tourist store, these crab shells don’t come in neon colors!  We really had some great days this past weekend – we’re hoping to do it again this weekend!

  1. Fun! A few of our friends got paddle boards too. We would like one but with it being winter 90% of the year and since we don’t live on a lake it just doesn’t make sense. Oh well.

    1. Yes, that would be like us buying some cold-weather toy! Of course, around here no one does anything but stay inside once it gets cold! We want to get one for Brian eventually – but we have a lot of bills right now so we’re going to hold off. We’re hoping there will be good sales this winter!

  2. That looks like such fun you should do it every weekend!! What a life your little one leads–think of how much she is learning from those rides, let alone the memories!! Looks like heaven 🙂

Thanks for sharing that with us at Rub Some Dirt On It!

  3. I desperately WANT a SUP! We were home this summer, and they were everywhere! I am also dying to try a yoga class on one. I know I will be hooked for life! Keep us posted as to if this is something you find that you use more and more, or if it becomes old hat after a while.

I try not to be the type that constantly chants I want, I want, I want….
but I truly feel this luxury would rock my world!

    Klem, (Hugs in Norwegian)
